Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has accused the Federal Government of spending Nigeria LNG (NLNG) dividends that were expected to be shared among the states, claiming each state was due to receive more than ₦250 billion.

He made the allegation on Friday at a stakeholders’ meeting on the 2027 budget at the International Conference Centre in Ibadan.

Makinde said the dividend payments had entered the Federation Account and that the figures had been reconciled to determine the amounts due to each state.

He alleged that the Federal Government subsequently spent the money without paying the states their respective shares.

“They fooled us. The Nigeria LNG paid dividends to the Federal Government, which went straight into the Federation Account, but they spent it,” Makinde said.

The governor reiterated that the reconciliation had been completed and that the states were expected to receive the funds, but alleged that the Federal Government spent the money instead.

He said Oyo State had already identified projects for which it planned to use the expected allocation to expand the state’s economy.

Makinde also opposed delaying payment until after the 2027 elections, insisting that the welfare of Nigerians should take precedence over political considerations.

“Each state should receive more than N250 billion but Tinubu cornered it,” he said, accusing the president’s administration of withholding funds intended for the states.
