The African Democratic Congress has declared that it can win the 2027 general elections without forming a coalition with another political party, while expressing confidence that Atiku Abubakar can defeat President Bola Tinubu.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made the position known while speaking on Friday during an edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.
Abdullahi said the party was instead concentrating on establishing a formidable grassroots structure and presenting the ADC to Nigerians as a credible alternative to the existing political parties.
He said the party’s approach was informed by what he described as growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians with recycled political arrangements, adding that citizens were looking for a political platform that would address their immediate challenges.
The ADC spokesman maintained that electoral success would be determined by what political parties are able to achieve at polling units through voter mobilisation and trust, rather than alliances formed primarily for political visibility.
“We don’t need a coalition to win 2027. Elections are won at polling units through mobilisation and trust, not through television alliances,” he stated.
Turning to the presidential contest, Abdullahi expressed confidence that Atiku would defeat Tinubu in the 2027 election, arguing that Nigerians were searching for experienced leadership capable of understanding the country’s economic difficulties and restoring hope.
He presented Atiku as the candidate he believes is best prepared for the presidential contest, pointing to the former vice president’s national reach, private sector background and economic plans.
The ADC official’s comments come against the backdrop of increasing political realignments and discussions among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Despite the ongoing conversations around possible coalitions, Abdullahi maintained that the ADC does not consider an alliance with another political party necessary for victory.
He said the party’s priority remains building its grassroots structures, mobilising voters and earning the trust of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
