Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal has reignited the political dispute over Nyesom Wike’s allegiance, insisting that the FCT Minister must choose where he stands as political alignments ahead of 2027 continue to generate controversy.
Lawal said he would raise Wike’s political position with President Bola Tinubu, maintaining that supporting the APC while simultaneously backing other political parties creates an issue that requires clarification.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources in New York, the governor said APC governors had not shifted their position on the Rainbow Coalition.
“Our message is very, very clear: be on one side, you can’t be on two sides,” Lawal declared.
He said Wike should openly support the APC if he intends to back the party, rather than supporting APC at the presidential level while remaining involved with other parties during governorship and legislative contests.
Lawal was asked whether the APC governors were effectively demanding that Wike join the ruling party.
The Zamfara governor then revealed that he intends to discuss the issue with Tinubu when the President returns from his working vacation abroad.
“It’s something I will discuss with the President when he comes back,” Lawal said.
He added: “Let there be a clear line where this guy belongs to. It’s either he is in APC or he is out, simple. So I go with my brothers, the governors.”
The comments follow growing disagreement over Wike’s involvement in the Rainbow Coalition, which has been associated with mobilisation for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential re-election.
Wike has, however, maintained that his support for Tinubu does not mean the PDP should abandon its participation in other elections.
The FCT Minister said the PDP could still field candidates for governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections while he personally mobilises support for Tinubu’s presidential bid.
Wike has also insisted that the Rainbow Coalition has nothing to do with the APC, describing it as a cross-party platform aimed at mobilising support for Tinubu.
The contrasting positions have kept the question of Wike’s political allegiance at the centre of the latest dispute between the FCT Minister and APC governors ahead of the 2027 elections.
