The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, says he has not endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, dismissing social media reports and reaffirming that he has no favourite among the presidential candidates.
In a statement released through his media aide, Prince Bashir Adefaka, the Sultan said the reports being circulated on social media were false and should be ignored by the public.
He maintained that he has no preferred presidential candidate and has not publicly or privately endorsed President Tinubu or any other politician ahead of the 2027 election.
According to the statement, the Sultan’s responsibility as a father to all Nigerians makes it inappropriate for him to take sides in partisan politics or campaign for any candidate seeking elective office.
The palace further described the reports as a deliberate attempt to drag the respected monarch into political controversies for personal and selfish interests.
It noted that the Sultan has always maintained an open-door policy, welcoming political leaders, government officials and ordinary Nigerians regardless of their political affiliations or religious backgrounds.
The statement explained that receiving visitors from different political parties should not be misconstrued as political support or endorsement for any individual or party.
It added that the Sultan has consistently promoted peace, justice, religious harmony and national unity throughout his reign and remains committed to those ideals.
The palace therefore urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, insisting that the Sultan will continue to remain neutral while carrying out his traditional and religious responsibilities.
