Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in 2027, insisting that the APC will go before Nigerians with the achievements of the administration.

Akpabio spoke on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when he received members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse.

The Senate President said the APC would have sufficient achievements to present to Nigerians once the campaign for the 2027 election begins.

He argued that Tinubu inherited a difficult economic situation but had implemented measures that, in his assessment, had improved the financial position of states.

Akpabio specifically claimed that 27 states were unable to pay salaries and pensions when Tinubu assumed office, saying the situation had changed under the current administration.

“The current president has done a lot for Nigerians,” Akpabio said, attributing the changes to what he described as Tinubu’s economic reengineering and “thinking out of the box.”The Senate President then predicted that Nigerians would choose Tinubu for another term when they go to the polls in 2027.

“In 2027, Nigerians will separate the chaff from the grains and re-elect President Tinubu for a second term in office,” he said.Akpabio added that the APC would use the campaign period to highlight what he described as the “unprecedented achievements” of the Tinubu administration.He also took aim at opposition politicians seeking to unseat Tinubu, accusing them of failing to provide Nigerians with convincing alternatives to the ruling party.

Turning to the Senate, Akpabio said the 10th National Assembly had recorded what he described as “giant strides” under his leadership and would continue to work with the executive.

He also warned lawmakers against allowing criticism on social media to distract them from their legislative responsibilities, describing some online commentary as “garbage in, garbage out.”Akpabio called on senators who will not return to the 11th Senate after the 2027 elections to continue supporting the APC and the Tinubu administration.

He said their loyalty to the party and their contributions to its success would be recognised.

The comments come as political parties and their candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election, with the performance of the Tinubu administration expected to remain a major issue in the campaign.
