The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP has endorsed the G-100 coalition initiative, joining the growing opposition effort to build a united political force capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 election.
The faction announced its support in a statement released Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following the inaugural meeting of the G-100 opposition group held on August 31.
Ememobong said the decision was influenced by what the faction described as widespread hardship among Nigerians under the Tinubu-led APC government and the need for opposition forces to work together to change the political situation at the federal level.
He said the faction remained committed to cooperating with political parties and organisations that share its objective of finding solutions to the challenges confronting the country.
Turaki, the faction’s National Chairman, said his group’s participation in the coalition process would depend on principles including transparency, equality, data-driven decisions and egalitarianism.
He argued that a process guided by those principles could produce a leadership capable of addressing rising poverty, insecurity and other difficulties facing Nigerians.
The PDP faction said it was not joining the process merely for political alignment but to contribute to the development of a credible opposition platform that could present an alternative to the ruling APC.
Ememobong noted that the faction had previously expressed its willingness to work with like-minded political parties and organisations seeking what it described as a way to rescue Nigeria from the problems associated with the present administration.
According to him, participation in the G-100’s first meeting demonstrated the faction’s preparedness to play an active role in the coalition-building process.
He said the ultimate objective was to create an all-opposition platform that could challenge the incumbent government, take power at the federal level and work towards rebuilding the country.
The faction’s position comes as opposition parties and political figures increasingly explore possible alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
The G-100 initiative is seeking to bring different opposition interests together and establish a framework for cooperation, following concerns that a divided opposition could struggle to defeat the ruling party.
The Turaki-led faction’s endorsement could therefore strengthen the ongoing coalition discussions, although major questions remain over how the opposition alliance will be structured and how its eventual candidate or candidates will emerge.
The development adds to the growing political realignment ahead of 2027, with opposition forces seeking a strategy capable of pooling their strengths and presenting a stronger challenge to Tinubu and the APC.
