The APC has expanded President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign council, assigning campaign coordination roles to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo, despite their affiliations with different political parties.
The new appointments appear in a revised list that President Tinubu is scheduled to inaugurate at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, as the ruling party adjusts its campaign leadership ahead of the next general elections.
Wike, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, will coordinate the APC presidential campaign in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Soludo, a member of APGA, has been assigned responsibility for Anambra, while Adeleke, elected governor of Osun under the Accord Party, will coordinate the campaign in his state.
Their inclusion places politicians affiliated with three different parties in the APC’s expanded campaign structure, alongside members and officeholders of the ruling party.
The list also names Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola as Deputy National Coordinator I for stakeholders’ mobilisation in the South-West.
Under the revised arrangement, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will serve as deputy vice-chairmen I, II and III, respectively.
Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni has been appointed Deputy Director-General I for the North, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will serve as Deputy Director-General II for the region.
For the South, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy House Speaker Benjamin Kalu have been named deputy director-generals I and II, respectively.
Another significant feature of the new structure is the appointment of all 32 APC governors as coordinators for the party’s presidential campaign in their respective states. APC governorship candidates Sharafadeen Alli in Oyo, Mohammed Abubakar in Bauchi and Chijioke Chukwu in Abia have also been assigned state coordination roles.
The expanded list contains 14 advisers, including Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, former senator Florence Ita-Giwa, former Ogun governor Ibikunle Amosun, former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore and former coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun.
The revised appointments differ from the initial list released on August 22, which named former Zamfara governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General. Akpabio, Abbas and Buni were initially assigned deputy director-general positions before the latest changes.
The campaign council changes come ahead of the 2027 elections, with the electoral timetable cited in the report setting January 14, 2027, as the deadline for presidential and National Assembly campaigns.
Tinubu’s reported contenders include former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the ADC and Peter Obi, whom the report identifies as the NDC flagbearer.
