Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has raised the stakes ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring the APC ready for the contest and promising to deliver two million votes for President Bola Tinubu from the state.
The governor spoke on Thursday at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, where thousands of APC supporters gathered for a mega rally organised to mobilise support for the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
Supporters from all 20 local government areas of Ogun State attended the rally, which provided the APC with an opportunity to demonstrate its grassroots structure and begin stronger mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abiodun said the turnout at the event was evidence of the APC’s strength and acceptance across the state. He argued that the achievements of his administration over the last seven years had given the party a strong platform to seek continued support from Ogun residents.
The governor said he had no doubt that the APC was prepared for the 2027 electoral battle, while praising members for maintaining peace and unity during the party’s activities. He also described Adeola’s emergence as the governorship candidate as an important moment for the APC in Ogun.
According to Abiodun, Adeola possesses the experience and exposure needed to lead the state. He therefore charged party members and support groups to take the APC’s message to every ward and community and intensify efforts to win more voters ahead of the elections.
Abiodun also made a firm commitment on the presidential contest, saying Ogun State would work towards delivering two million votes for Tinubu in 2027. He urged supporters to sell the achievements and programmes of the APC to voters at the grassroots.
Adeola, in his remarks, praised Abiodun as a “silent achiever”, saying the governor’s seven years in office had produced notable accomplishments and created a foundation that could support further development in Ogun State.
The APC candidate promised that his administration would build on the governor’s achievements if he wins the 2027 governorship election. He also rejected claims that he was planning an alliance with opposition parties, urging APC members not to be distracted by what he described as approaches from opposition elements.
Adeola maintained that the APC remained well positioned to retain power in Ogun, citing its structures, organisation and support base across the state. He also praised Caucus 7202 and other groups for supporting his ambition and the party’s candidates.
The state APC chairman, Yemi Sanusi, meanwhile, urged party members to intensify grassroots engagement by explaining the APC manifesto, policies and achievements to voters. He said effective mobilisation and voter education would play an important role in determining the party’s performance in 2027.
The Director-General of Caucus 7202, Olaseni Koiki, said the group had approximately 180,000 members across Ogun’s 20 local government areas. He claimed that more than 90 per cent of the members were not affiliated with any political party.
Koiki said the organisation would use its structures across the state to mobilise support for Tinubu, Abiodun’s senatorial ambition and Adeola’s governorship campaign, with the ultimate goal of securing victory for the APC and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
