The Akwa Ibom State Government says it has committed N879.22 billion to infrastructure development since Governor Umo Eno assumed office, with hundreds of projects covering roads, erosion control and electricity.

The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, made the disclosure during a media briefing in Uyo on Thursday.

Ibanga said the administration had funded 234 projects, including road construction, erosion intervention and 40 electrical works projects across the state.

He put the total length of roads covered by the state government’s projects at 1,159.63 kilometres, while another 352.83 kilometres are being delivered under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project.

The commissioner explained that RAAMP is being implemented with support from the World Bank in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Government.

He said the N879.22 billion figure represents spending on ARISE projects and projects inherited from the previous administration, with RAAMP projects excluded from the calculation.

Beyond road construction, Ibanga said the Ministry of Works has been responsible for road and bridge maintenance, culvert construction, electricity-related programmes and the upkeep of mechanical and electrical workshops.

He added that the government has provided traffic lights and street lighting while carrying out other electrical works across the state.

According to the commissioner, geotechnical and material testing services have also been deployed to strengthen quality control, while government projects are being supervised and evaluated to ensure that public funds deliver value.

Ibanga said Governor Eno’s administration had completed 105 inherited projects and 129 ARISE Finance and General Purpose Committee projects, alongside road maintenance and reconstruction efforts.

He also announced the execution of 43 RAAMP projects and said 16 road projects were awarded in 2026.

The commissioner said the state government is targeting completion of the newly awarded projects before the governor’s second term begins.

He maintained that the infrastructure investments have strengthened Akwa Ibom’s position as a destination within Nigeria’s South-South region.

Ibanga expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for supporting the Ministry of Works through budgetary releases to facilitate the implementation of the administration’s infrastructure programmes.
