The All Progressive Congress (APC) has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly working to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s campaign rally in Kaduna through the spread of misleading information and manipulated content.
Dele Alake, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, made the allegation in a statement on Saturday, claiming that the alleged campaign was aimed at Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC leaders ahead of the party’s rally.
Alake alleged that the activities involved misleading reports, doctored documents, artificial intelligence-generated material and deepfake videos designed to portray the campaign event negatively and undermine public confidence in the ruling party’s activities.
As an example, the council cited a photograph of a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna. It alleged that the image was presented in a manner that could mislead the public into believing security personnel had been deployed to protect the party’s billboards.
The APC also accused Atiku of amplifying the narrative after he allegedly shared a report about the incident on his official social media accounts. The council described the report as misleading and claimed it formed part of the alleged effort to discredit the rally.
Another issue raised by the campaign council was a purported letter allegedly written by Governor Uba Sani to Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council. The document reportedly claimed that the Kaduna State Government had released ₦2.3 trillion to host the event.
The council rejected the reported expenditure, arguing that the amount was implausible because it exceeded the combined budgets of Kaduna State for 2024, 2025 and 2026. It listed the budgets for the three years as ₦458.271 billion, ₦790.439 billion and ₦985.9 billion, respectively.
Alake further alleged that old, doctored and deepfake videos might be circulated during the rally to suggest that residents of Kaduna were opposed to the APC campaign. The council warned Nigerians against accepting information online without examining its credibility.
Despite the seriousness of the accusations, the report stated that the APC campaign council did not provide independent evidence to substantiate its claims against Atiku and the ADC. The allegations therefore remain claims made by the ruling party’s campaign council.
The council urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, describing the alleged activities as an attempt to undermine the party’s campaign and tarnish the image of its leaders. The APC’s presidential campaign flag-off is scheduled for today Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Kaduna.
