The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has begun its consultations with traditional rulers ahead of the 2027 election, visiting the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, to seek their blessings for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The delegation arrived at the two monarchs’ palaces on Thursday, one day after the council was inaugurated. Director-General Senator Abdulaziz Yari led the team alongside some governors serving on the council.
At the Olubadan’s palace in Oke Aremo, Yari said the traditional institution’s influence made the visit an important part of the council’s assignment. He said the campaign team needed the rulers’ prayers and guidance as it worked towards Tinubu’s return to office.
According to Yari, Tinubu directed the council to visit traditional rulers across Nigeria. He explained that Ibadan was selected as the first destination because of its historical importance to the party’s leadership and said the council was counting on the monarchs’ support.
Yari said the APC would base its campaign on Tinubu’s record in office and what the administration intended to accomplish during a second term. He maintained that the President’s achievements across different sectors had made the party’s task easier and described the country’s six geopolitical zones as construction sites.
The council’s Director-General also said the economy was on the right path and that projects inherited from previous administrations were receiving attention, with some already completed. These remarks formed part of his argument that the APC could campaign on the government’s performance.
Oba Ladoja welcomed the delegation and commended the administration’s contribution to socio-economic development. He said Tinubu could still receive support from Nigerians even if he contested as an independent candidate, while stressing that the message delivered to the council was to secure votes for Tinubu as a candidate.
In a separate interview, Chief Boi Bosin Ebikeme, Chairman of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, represented Tompolo and explained the structure of the PBAT Door-to-Door movement. He said the group was created to mobilise support for Tinubu across the country and had coordinators in all 774 local government areas, as well as the 33 municipal councils in the FCT.
Ebikeme said the movement had built structures at state, ward and unit levels, reaching communities through door-to-door visits and engagement with churches and mosques. He said Tompolo was financing the initiative and disclosed that the group had purchased about 1,000 vehicles equipped with electronic equipment and other logistics. He later stated that more than 1,000 vehicles had been acquired.
Describing Tinubu as a decisive and experienced politician, Ebikeme urged Nigerians to give the President another term to consolidate his reforms. He pointed to Lagos State’s development as part of Tinubu’s political record and repeated the group’s position that “one good term deserves another.”
