People’s Redemption Party (PRP) National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has made a striking prediction about the 2027 presidential election, saying President Bola Tinubu would lose before 4pm if the election is conducted in a credible, free and fair manner.
Baba-Ahmed made the declaration during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he assessed the political strength of the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the APC’s defeat in the Osun State governorship election showed that the ruling party could be beaten at the polls despite its political influence.
He argued that opposition parties in Osun were able to compete independently, insisting that the outcome demonstrated that defeating the APC did not necessarily require a massive opposition coalition.
Baba-Ahmed said the Osun result could be replicated at the national level, rejecting suggestions that the election outcome was the product of an alleged political arrangement between Tinubu and Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The PRP chairman also took aim at the APC, describing the party as a “monster eating itself up and eating everybody up.”
He questioned how the President could remain politically uncomfortable despite controlling the Federal Government and enjoying what he described as support from 31 governors and a large majority of the National Assembly.
Baba-Ahmed said the concentration of political power around the President was creating what he called a politically monstrous situation. He then gave his assessment of Tinubu’s chances in 2027, insisting that the President would lose if the election met the standards of credibility, freedom and fairness.
“If it’s a credible, free and fair election, I assure you, Tinubu will lose. I won’t say before 12 noon. Maybe before 4 pm,” he declared. The opposition leader also questioned whether the Independent National Electoral Commission could conduct a genuinely credible presidential election involving an incumbent President.
He urged Nigerians and political stakeholders not to praise INEC prematurely, arguing that its credibility should be judged by the conduct of the 2027 election itself.
Baba-Ahmed warned that any manipulation or failure to deliver a credible election could pose a serious danger to Nigeria’s democracy.
He said the country needed an electoral process in which voters could freely choose their leaders and have confidence that their votes would determine the outcome.
