In a high-profile ruling, a Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦200 million bail each to ex-AGF Abubakar Malami, his wife Asabe Bashir, and son Abdulaziz Malami in their ongoing money laundering trial.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, presiding over the case, set strict bail conditions requiring two sureties per defendant, one providing property title in Maitama or Asokoro, and mandatory surrender of international passports. The Malami family will remain under Nigerian Correctional Service custody until conditions are met.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had re-arraigned the trio on February 27, facing 16 counts of alleged money laundering. Each pleaded not guilty. The trial is set to start March 16.

This development has sparked discussions nationwide on accountability, bail procedures, and the fight against corruption in Nigeria’s public office. Legal observers note that while the bail aligns with judicial standards, it also ensures the Malami family remains within the court’s reach.
