A fresh political clash has erupted in Abuja as Senator Ireti Kingibe openly challenged Minister Nyesom Wike’s decision to restrict movement ahead of the FCT area council elections.

Kingibe described the curfew as unjustified and unnecessary, insisting there is no security threat to warrant such a sweeping order in a democratic society.

Wike had directed residents to stay indoors from 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday and declared Friday a work-free day to allow preparations for the polls.

But Kingibe countered that sensitive election materials had already been delivered across the area councils and that both logistics and security arrangements were fully in place.

She revealed that representatives from the councils personally monitored the distribution of materials and confirmed that everything was on track for Saturday’s vote.

According to her, restricting movement without any reported security breach sends the wrong message and risks undermining public confidence in the electoral process.

She warned that residents have legitimate evening responsibilities and that imposing a curfew amounts to an unnecessary limitation of their constitutional rights.

The dispute has heightened tension in the capital, turning what should have been routine election preparations into a political showdown over freedom, authority, and the boundaries of executive power.
