The Defence Headquarters has rejected a viral video allegedly showing Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, endorsing partisan politics, saying the footage is fake and was created using artificial intelligence.
The DHQ said the video did not originate from the Chief of Defence Staff and urged Nigerians to disregard the statements attributed to him.
In a statement released on Thursday, the military authorities said the footage was created through artificial intelligence manipulation and appeared designed to deceive the public.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the fake video was also intended to misrepresent General Oluyede’s position and bring the Nigerian Armed Forces into disrepute.
“The video is a product of Artificial Intelligence-generated manipulation,” the DHQ said, warning Nigerians against believing or spreading the claims contained in it.
The military stressed that the Nigerian Armed Forces remains professional, apolitical and non-partisan, with its activities guided by the Constitution and its responsibility to defend the country.
It said the Chief of Defence Staff had not made the statements contained in the viral footage and described the attributed comments as false.
The Defence Headquarters also condemned the production and circulation of the material, particularly by individuals who knowingly amplify false information.
It warned those responsible for creating the video and people deliberately spreading it to stop immediately.
The military urged Nigerians to exercise caution when encountering viral videos involving senior military officers, especially where the content has not been confirmed through official channels.
It further advised members of the public to obtain information about the Armed Forces from its verified communication platforms.
The DHQ maintained that the purported political endorsement by General Oluyede should be completely disregarded, describing the video as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and distort the position of the military.
