The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered an extensive nationwide security operation following the Eid-el-Kabir prayers across Nigeria, with officers deployed to highways, motor parks and other busy public places. The move is aimed at sustaining peace and preventing any form of criminal activity during the ongoing Sallah celebrations.

Disu gave the directive as he congratulated Muslims across Nigeria on the Sallah celebration and assured citizens that the police would work round the clock to maintain peace and public safety during the festive season.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid. According to the statement, the police leadership has activated stronger security measures across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory.

The IGP instructed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to improve surveillance operations and increase proactive policing strategies to prevent criminal activities during the celebration period.

The police said the operation would involve tactical squads, intelligence operatives and conventional officers stationed at Eid prayer grounds, major highways, recreational centres, markets, motor parks and other crowded locations expected to record heavy movement of people.

Authorities also confirmed that officers would intensify patrols, stop and search operations and intelligence driven surveillance to quickly detect and stop possible threats before they escalate.

Disu called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information capable of helping officers prevent attacks or criminal activities during the holiday.

The police chief specifically urged members of the public to report suspicious persons, strange gatherings, abandoned bags or unusual activities around worship centres and crowded public places. He stressed that ignoring suspicious movements could put lives at risk.

To improve emergency response, the Nigeria Police Force released dedicated hotlines for residents to contact security agencies during the Eid celebration. The emergency numbers are 08057000001, 08057000002, 09133333785 and 09133333786.

While extending his Eid el Adha message to Muslims nationwide, the IGP reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring a peaceful celebration across the country.
