A political storm is brewing as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) demands urgent action over the continued detention of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The party says El-Rufai has been held for more than 30 days without being charged in court — a situation it describes as illegal and unconstitutional.
In a strongly worded statement, ADC accused authorities of violating his fundamental rights, including access to family and medical care.
According to the party, El-Rufai first honoured an invitation by the EFCC before ending up in the custody of the ICPC, where he has remained.
ADC raised alarm over what it described as attempts to pressure him into giving up his political rights in exchange for freedom.
The party warned that such actions threaten democracy and could set a dangerous precedent if left unchecked.
It also stressed that anti-corruption agencies must not be used as instruments of political intimidation.
Calling on authorities to act immediately, ADC insisted that El-Rufai must either be charged in court or released without further delay.
The development has sparked wider concerns about rule of law, due process, and the state of democracy in the country.
