Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has filed a ₦15 billion defamation suit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi over allegations linking him to an alleged kickback request involving the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, PFIPC.

The case, filed before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, seeks general and aggravated damages, legal costs and a court order compelling Adeyemi to publicly retract the allegations and apologise through national newspapers and social media platforms.

According to court documents, Adeyemi had accused Gbajabiamila of demanding a 48 per cent kickback from a ₦27.3 billion take-off grant allegedly approved for the agency and claimed that part of the money had already been paid through an intermediary.

Gbajabiamila rejected the allegations, maintaining that he has never met Adeyemi, never communicated with him and never authorised anyone to collect money on his behalf.

The claimant also told the court that despite receiving a formal demand to withdraw the allegations, Adeyemi allegedly continued repeating the claims in subsequent media appearances.

Court filings further stated that Adeyemi later admitted in an interview that he had never personally met the Chief of Staff and had no independent means of confirming the identity of the individual he believed he was dealing with.

Gbajabiamila also informed the court that Adeyemi is facing a separate criminal trial over allegations involving forged presidential documents and appointment letters.

The Chief of Staff argued that the allegations have caused significant reputational damage and asked the court to award the requested damages while ordering a public apology and retraction.
