The Federal Government has renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while approving major expansions and upgrades to key federal road projects nationwide.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the decision was taken in recognition of Tinubu’s vision for the coastal road, which he said dates back nearly three decades.

Speaking in Abuja, Umahi explained that the Ministry of Works approved the renaming after consultations with its management.

He described the coastal highway as one of Nigeria’s flagship infrastructure projects, with its first phase running from Victoria Island to Lekki and designed to accommodate a future railway corridor.

The minister also revealed that President Tinubu approved an additional 400 kilometres for the Fourth Legacy Highway, extending the road into Taraba State.

Other approvals include the dualisation of another section of the East-West Road, reconstruction of parts of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, completion of the Ibi Bridge and construction of the Lao Bridge.

Umahi said the projects are part of the Federal Government’s strategy to strengthen transportation, improve connectivity and support economic development across the country.
