Paul Ibe, spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticised the Senate for questioning Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s defection to the African Democratic Congress.

In a post on social media, Ibe accused the Senate leadership of selectively invoking constitutional provisions.

He argued that the Senate did not raise similar concerns when opposition lawmakers defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to him, Abaribe had already been suspended from the All Progressives Grand Alliance by the party’s Abia State chapter before aligning with the ADC.

Ibe said the suspension, which occurred in September 2025 over alleged anti-party activities, meant that the senator was no longer a member of APGA at the time of his defection.

He also urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers to focus on their legislative duties rather than political disputes.

The development follows ongoing debate in the Senate over the defection of several lawmakers to the African Democratic Congress.
