Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, urging the judiciary to restore the release of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate,  Omoyele Sowore’s from custody.

A crowd of Nigerian youths staged a protest at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ahead of proceedings involving Omoyele Sowore.

The protesters demanded Sowore’s immediate freedom, insisting that he should not remain in detention while awaiting the court’s decision on his application.

Sowore has remained in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre after the court previously ordered his remand.

The court is expected to deliver its ruling on an application requesting the restoration of his bail and the reversal of the bench warrant earlier issued against him.

Justice Mohammed Umar reserved today’s date for the ruling after counsel representing both parties concluded and adopted their submissions.

Throughout the demonstration, protesters chanted, “Free Sowore now. We want a better Nigeria,” attracting attention outside the court complex.

They also appealed to security personnel to stand with citizens seeking national progress, saying their campaign is aimed at building a better future for the next generation.
