A major leadership crisis has erupted within the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as the group’s Directorate of State announced the suspension of Nnamdi Kanu’s office and assumed control of the movement’s administration.
According to Daily Post, The decision followed a meeting of the Directorate of State, which reviewed reports concerning communications allegedly traced to Kanu while he remains in detention.
In a statement issued by Directorate head Chika Edoziem, the group said the Directorate would henceforth oversee the affairs and operations of IPOB.
The leadership argued that the organisation was established through the collective efforts of Biafrans across the Diaspora and insisted that the Directorate remains the highest governing authority within the movement.
According to the statement, concerns over the impact of certain communications allegedly linked to Kanu, including reports of arrests and security crackdowns involving members, influenced the decision.
The group also raised alarm over an alleged attempt by some individuals to create a new militia structure, warning that such actions could trigger renewed violence in the region.
IPOB stated that suspending the office was intended to prevent unauthorized actions and protect members from what it described as avoidable risks.
The announcement comes shortly after reports that Kanu had dissolved the existing Directorate leadership and appointed a new team led by United States based Chris Nwaogu, setting the stage for a major internal leadership confrontation.
