Former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, has opposed negotiating with bandits, saying the approach would only enrich criminal groups and worsen insecurity.
Ganduje made the remarks on Tuesday while reacting to comments attributed to NDC vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that he and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would negotiate with terrorists if elected in 2027.
He said previous negotiations with bandits had failed and warned against giving armed groups money or logistical support under the guise of peace talks.
According to Ganduje, such an approach would strengthen the bandits financially, enabling them to purchase more weapons and continue carrying out attacks.
He urged the government to rely on security agencies and lawful strategies rather than negotiating with armed criminal groups.
