A Federal High Court in Abuja has authorised the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC to examine electronic devices recovered from the residence of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the order after the commission filed an application seeking permission to inspect and analyse the items as part of its investigation.
The devices were seized during a search of El-Rufai’s home and include several storage devices mobile phones flash drives a tablet and a laptop computer.
The court allowed investigators to carry out forensic extraction of information including messages call records pictures documents and other data stored in the devices.
However El-Rufai has taken the matter to court challenging the search of his Asokoro Abuja residence and demanding one billion naira in damages.
He argues that the search warrant issued by a magistrate court was invalid and violated his constitutional rights including privacy dignity and personal liberty.
The case continues as the court considers both the anti corruption agency’s investigation and El-Rufai’s claims of unlawful search and seizure.
