Nasir El-Rufai has been granted temporary bail by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission to enable him attend the funeral of his late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
The former governor, who is currently facing corruption-related charges, received the approval shortly after news emerged that his mother died in Cairo following an illness.
Family members confirmed the development, with his son, Bashir, announcing the release and thanking supporters who stood by the family during the period.
Tributes have continued to pour in from across the country. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the deceased as a woman of strong values and lasting influence, while Atiku Abubakar extended condolences, praying for her peaceful rest.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani also sympathised with the family, noting that the late matriarch lived a life defined by kindness, humility, and service to others.
Despite the temporary release, El-Rufai’s legal battle continues. He was recently arraigned before a Federal High Court on multiple charges, with proceedings expected to resume at the end of the month.
