Governor Abba Yusuf has warned that politicising insecurity weakens Nigeria’s response to threats, calling for collective action and stronger unity across regions to restore peace and stability.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has raised concerns over attempts to turn Nigeria’s security crisis into a political issue, warning that such actions hinder efforts to address the problem effectively.

He made the remarks at a national summit in Lagos, where discussions centred on governance, national development and strategies for building a more united country.

Yusuf said the security situation remains serious and requires honest and coordinated responses rather than political manipulation. He stressed that exploiting insecurity for personal or political gain damages national progress.

He described the impact of insecurity as far reaching, noting that it has disrupted economic activities and weakened trust among citizens across different regions.

The governor emphasised that tackling the crisis demands shared responsibility, insisting that both government institutions and citizens must play active roles.

He confirmed that parts of Kano State have faced security threats, including bandit attacks, but said authorities continue to work closely with security agencies to contain the situation.

Yusuf also highlighted efforts to improve local security through community based initiatives designed to complement formal structures and address emerging crimes.

Calling for stronger national cohesion, he proposed building partnerships between the North and the South through programmes that promote understanding, cooperation and conflict resolution.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to embrace unity and work together to rebuild trust, stressing that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective commitment.
