Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Bello has intensified her political comeback after returning to the PDP and securing the party’s ticket for the Ogun Central senatorial race ahead of the 2027 elections.

The political landscape in Ogun State witnessed a major development on Wednesday as former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Bello formally rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party and emerged as its candidate for the Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo received a warm reception from party leaders and supporters at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, where officials officially presented her with the party flag.

Addressing party faithful, Obasanjo reaffirmed her commitment to the PDP and pledged to uphold the party’s ideals while working for the interests of the people of Ogun State and Nigeria.

She blamed her exit from the ruling All Progressives Congress on what she described as persistent disrespect, exclusion from critical decisions and betrayal by individuals she once supported politically.

The former senator revealed that she joined the APC because of the regard President Bola Tinubu consistently showed her. However, she said the reality she encountered within the party eventually forced her to leave.

Obasanjo argued that her political experience as a former commissioner and senator positions her strongly for the Ogun Central contest. She expressed confidence that voters would support her bid in 2027.

The event also featured PDP governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu, who promised transparent leadership and greater financial independence for local governments if elected.

Obasanjo’s return marks a significant step in her political resurgence after years away from frontline politics following her unsuccessful re election bid in 2011 and subsequent relocation to the United States.
