Governor Dauda Lawal has approached President Bola Tinubu for urgent federal intervention to tackle insecurity in Zamfara while also seeking support to strengthen the state’s economy and job creation efforts.
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja to push for stronger federal action on security and economic challenges facing the state.
The governor used the meeting to provide an update on the security situation, outlining steps already taken by his administration to curb violence and protect communities.
Through his spokesman, Sulaiman Idris, Lawal highlighted gaps that require immediate federal assistance to achieve sustainable peace.
President Tinubu assured the governor that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting Zamfara, including plans to deploy more troops and improve operational capacity with modern equipment.
The discussion also covered the state’s economic outlook, with Lawal presenting progress recorded in revenue generation despite ongoing challenges.
He urged the Federal Government to provide additional backing that would help grow local industries and open up employment opportunities for residents.
The meeting underscores the importance of cooperation between state and federal authorities in addressing insecurity and economic recovery in the northwest region.
It followed closely after the president’s meeting with governors of the All Progressives Congress, where national political and governance issues were also discussed.
Analysts believe the engagement reflects increasing urgency to stabilise states affected by insecurity while sustaining economic reforms.
