Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed his commitment to Accord Party candidates in the 2027 legislative elections, insisting that his alliance with the APC and PDP for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election will not change his political position at the state and legislative levels.
The governor made the clarification in a Friday post on his X account after the inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council set up to coordinate Tinubu’s campaign ahead of the January 2027 presidential election.
Adeleke explained that the agreement between Accord, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party was limited to the presidential contest. He maintained that the alliance would not extend to elections for the Senate, House of Representatives or Osun State House of Assembly.
“My support for all Accord candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly remains unshaken,” he declared, making clear that his endorsement of Tinubu did not amount to abandoning candidates of his own party.
The governor described the partnership as a coalition formed specifically to secure Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that the participating parties would retain their separate positions in legislative contests.
“Our rainbow coalition of Accord, APC and PDP is united solely for President Tinubu’s re-election in the January 2027 presidential election. This partnership does not extend to the legislative elections,” Adeleke said.
He also reiterated the coalition’s ambition to secure more than 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in Osun State, urging political stakeholders to work towards the target while maintaining the distinction between the presidential alliance and the legislative elections.
The clarification means Adeleke intends to support Tinubu’s presidential bid while continuing to back Accord candidates seeking seats in the National Assembly and the state legislature. The arrangement allows the participating political structures to cooperate on the presidential race without extending that agreement to other electoral contests.
In a separate update, Adeleke disclosed that discussions to resolve Osun State’s lingering local government crisis had reached an advanced stage. He said the Federal Government had given assurances that positive developments were expected.
“On the Osun local government crisis, negotiations are at an advanced stage. I have received the assurance of the Federal Government, and there will be positive developments soon,” the governor stated.
Adeleke further urged political stakeholders to rise above their differences and cooperate, describing unity as necessary at a critical period for the country. He called on them to move beyond past disagreements and work towards a more prosperous future.
