Tension is rising in Cross River after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed a new case of COVID-19, triggering emergency health measures.

Authorities say the case involves a 53-year-old foreign worker in Akamkpa, marking the first officially recorded infection in the state in years.

The patient, who reportedly showed mild symptoms, was later admitted and diagnosed at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, setting off immediate containment protocols.

Health officials insist the situation is under control, revealing that the patient is stable and responding to treatment at an isolation facility.

Contact tracing has already begun, with all identified contacts placed under close monitoring as officials race to prevent any possible spread.

Speaking on the development, Henry Ayuk reassured residents that there is no cause for panic, even as surveillance efforts intensify.

Despite the reassurance, authorities are urging strict compliance with safety measures, warning that early detection and rapid response remain critical to stopping any potential outbreak.
