APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda has called for greater investment in engineering, innovation and technology, saying Nigeria can achieve sustainable economic growth by empowering engineers and embracing modern technological solutions.

Yilwatda made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing participants at the 34th Engineering Assembly organised by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in Abuja.

Describing himself as a member of the engineering profession, he said the assembly reflects the importance of engineering in providing practical solutions to national challenges.

According to him, engineers have significant responsibilities in expanding infrastructure, improving energy supply, modernising agriculture, strengthening healthcare delivery, enhancing digital connectivity and driving industrialisation.

He maintained that sustained investment in engineering education, research and innovation would enable Nigeria to develop home-grown solutions capable of transforming the economy.

The APC chairman also said President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda recognises infrastructure and technological advancement as key components of national development, with engineers playing a central role in delivering these objectives.

Yilwatda encouraged Nigerian professionals to embrace emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, renewable energy, automation and smart infrastructure while upholding professionalism and ethical standards.

He also called for stronger partnerships among government institutions, universities, regulatory bodies and the private sector, expressing confidence that Nigerian engineers possess the capacity to close the country’s infrastructure gap, create jobs and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
