Nigeria has secured a new partnership with Türkiye to expand investment opportunities in mining, improve technical capacity, and support reforms in the country’s solid minerals sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit, where officials from both countries discussed deeper cooperation in mining and energy development.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Dele Alake said Nigeria is ready to work closely with Türkiye in areas such as mining exploration, licensing systems, technology transfer, training, and digitisation.

He explained that reforms introduced in the sector over the last three years have improved investor confidence and created a better business environment for international companies.

Alake added that the Federal Government has strengthened enforcement against illegal mining activities, revealing that security operatives have arrested hundreds of illegal miners while several prosecutions are ongoing nationwide.

On his part, Alparslan Bayraktar commended Nigeria’s reforms and expressed confidence in the country’s economic potential.

Bayraktar said Turkish companies are willing to invest heavily in Nigeria’s mining and energy sectors, describing Nigeria as an important gateway for broader African partnerships.

The minister also called for renewed cooperation between both nations in the hydrocarbon sector, while Nigerian officials stressed that peace and global stability remain essential for sustainable energy security.
