Fresh uncertainty has emerged within the Nigeria Democratic Congress over Peter Obi’s reported exhaustion, with two party spokespersons offering different accounts of the presidential candidate’s condition and whether his demanding campaign schedule has taken a toll on him.

The controversy followed comments by Sam Omale, Deputy Spokesperson of the NDC Presidential Campaign Council, who disclosed that Obi had been experiencing exhaustion due to frequent travels and a packed schedule of political engagements.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, Omale insisted that the former Anambra State governor was in good health but needed some rest after weeks of intensive activities.

His comments came amid concerns about Obi’s condition following his recent campaign rally in Enugu State, where he reportedly indicated that he intended to take a break.

Omale described Obi as someone who remains deeply committed to Nigeria, claiming that the presidential candidate often pushes himself beyond normal limits because of his determination to engage with Nigerians.

He explained that Obi sometimes travels between countries and Nigerian cities within a short period, citing instances where the former governor would be in London at night and arrive in Enugu the following morning.

According to him, the presidential candidate also combines several responsibilities, including attending political engagements, answering questions and responding to emails, further adding to his demanding schedule.

Despite acknowledging the exhaustion, Omale dismissed suggestions that Obi was suffering from any serious health problem, maintaining that he was in perfect health and only needed adequate rest.

He further assured supporters that the situation would not disrupt the campaign, saying Obi would continue holding town hall meetings before the commencement of the main presidential rallies.

However, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, appeared to contradict the campaign council spokesperson, declaring that he knew nothing about any exhaustion involving the party’s presidential candidate.

Director said he had spent time with Obi in Bayelsa State and had no knowledge of any health-related incident, maintaining that the former governor was in good health as far as he knew.

He added that he only learnt Obi had travelled abroad after their time together in Bayelsa, noting that some people had accompanied the presidential candidate to the airport.

The party’s publicity secretary also disclosed that the national campaign council had not discussed any need for Obi to slow down his activities, saying he was unaware of circumstances that would require such a decision.

He maintained that Omale was better placed to explain the claims he had made about the presidential candidate’s exhaustion.
