Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s handling of insecurity and the economy, saying Nigeria needs stronger leadership to tackle its growing challenges ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former Anambra State governor said Nigeria requires stronger leadership to confront its security challenges and urged the President to step aside.

Obi argued that despite progress claimed by the government, recent cases of kidnapping and violence show that insecurity remains a major concern.

He promised to take direct responsibility for tackling insecurity if elected president and pledged to provide more decisive leadership.

The opposition figure also said support from governors would not determine the outcome of the 2027 election, insisting that Nigerians would make the final decision through the ballot.

Obi further called on the Federal Government and INEC to conduct a free, fair and credible election, while reaffirming his belief that he won the 2023 presidential poll.

He also dismissed allegations that he discriminated against northerners, pointing to his record of appointments and humanitarian support across the region.
