Former Edo State Governor and Senator Adams Oshiomhole has called for a more aggressive approach to tackling violent crime, insisting that armed criminals should be confronted without hesitation.

Speaking during an interview on Monday, Oshiomhole criticised the reaction to recent comments by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu regarding the use of firearms by police officers.

He argued that security personnel must act decisively when confronted with armed criminals, stressing that public safety should remain the priority.

The senator also praised the Department of State Services for appealing a court ruling that imposed life imprisonment instead of the death sentence on convicted offenders.

Oshiomhole identified insecurity as the greatest political challenge facing President Bola Tinubu and urged the administration to demand measurable results from the nation’s security chiefs.

He said the ongoing recruitment of additional military personnel and expansion of army formations demonstrate the government’s determination to improve security across the country.

The senator added that while political opposition is expected in a democracy, Nigerians would ultimately judge the government based on its performance, particularly in addressing insecurity.
