Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has called a meeting with heads of security agencies following a recent wave of violence involving suspected rival cult groups in the state.

The meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday, will examine the recent killings and consider measures to strengthen security and prevent further attacks across Osun.

Samuel Ojo, the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, disclosed the planned meeting, saying it was necessary to reassure residents and ensure security agencies intensify their efforts.

He said the government was particularly concerned about the repeated killings allegedly connected to rival cult groups and would use the meeting to develop strategies to bring the violence under control.

Ojo said the security chiefs would also consider measures to secure forests across the state, amid concerns that criminal elements could use forested areas as hiding places.

According to him, the recent killing of an alleged ISWAP leader in Owo, Ondo State, showed the need for authorities to pay greater attention to forest areas and prevent criminals from using them as safe havens.

“We will not take it lightly with anyone using the forest as a hideout,” Ojo said, adding that the incident in Ondo should serve as a warning to criminals.

He said the meeting would also address other forms of violent crime, stressing that authorities needed to prevent cult-related killings from escalating further.

Ojo expressed concern about the impact of the violence on Osun’s reputation, saying the killings must stop because residents and outsiders may not understand the reasons behind the clashes.

The planned meeting comes after two separate suspected cult attacks in Osogbo between Friday and Sunday left two people dead and about five others injured.

In response to the latest violence, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura directed tactical teams to raid suspected criminal hideouts in Osogbo as security agencies intensify efforts to curb the attacks.
