SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has called on the APC to immediately expel Osun East Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged directive to supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adebayo made the demand on Thursday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, condemning what he described as the use of violence and inflammatory language in Nigerian public life.

The controversy followed a video in which Fadahunsi was allegedly seen telling his supporters to kill any Accord Party member they encounter ahead of Saturday’s election. The allegation comes at a tense period in Osun politics, with parties and their supporters stepping up activities ahead of the governorship poll.

Adebayo said the APC should not ignore the allegation, insisting that the party must take disciplinary action against members who make statements capable of encouraging violence. He said he expected the party to expel Fadahunsi and others responsible for similar comments, warning that failure to act would make the APC collectively responsible.

The SDP candidate also condemned violence as a tool in political competition, saying inflammatory statements by political actors could worsen tensions and threaten the peaceful conduct of elections. He called for responsible leadership and urged politicians to recognise the consequences their words could have on their supporters and the wider public.

Adebayo also demanded visible action from the police, saying security authorities should not merely announce that they were investigating the matter. According to him, the public would have greater confidence that action had been taken when Fadahunsi was brought before a court.

His comments add to growing concerns over the political atmosphere ahead of the Osun election, which is scheduled for August 15. With political parties battling for control of the state, inflammatory comments and allegations of electoral-related misconduct have continued to attract attention.

Adebayo stressed that political disputes should not result in violence, maintaining that citizens must be allowed to participate in the electoral process without intimidation or fear. He also urged political parties to demonstrate responsibility by controlling the conduct and language of their members and supporters.

The SDP candidate’s demand now puts the focus on both the APC and security authorities to respond to the allegation involving Fadahunsi, as Osun moves into the final stretch of its governorship contest.
