Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola has declared that Nyesom Wike cannot be his political leader, saying the FCT minister was still a student when he was already occupying the governorship position.

Oyinlola made his position known during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, while responding to questions about Wike’s influence in the PDP and claims that the minister leads the party.

The former governor insisted that his membership of the PDP did not mean he recognised Wike as his leader. He maintained that their political backgrounds and experiences did not support the idea that the FCT minister could exercise such authority over him.

According to Oyinlola, he had already become governor of Osun State at a time when Wike was still pursuing his education. He cited their different stages of political development to explain why he considered the minister his junior.

“Nobody has invited me to any rainbow coalition. I don’t know the meaning of rainbow except the one I know. He is not my leader. You don’t say that kind of thing. Yes, I am a member of the PDP, but he is not my leader,” he stated.

He added that Wike was still in school while he occupied the governorship position, concluding that the minister could not qualify to be his political leader.

“ He’s my boy,” Oyinlola declared, reinforcing his position on their political relationship.

The former governor also pointed to his lengthy involvement in politics and the positions he had previously occupied within the party and government, arguing that his political history placed him in a different position from Wike.

His comments came amid conversations about the FCT minister’s influence in the PDP and his alleged leadership role in the Rainbow Coalition.
