Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has alleged that the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State could have been orchestrated to cast the administration of President Bola Tinubu in a bad light.
Speaking during a television programme, Fayose questioned the actions taken by the Oyo State Government in the aftermath of the incident and suggested that political motives may have influenced events surrounding the crisis.
The abduction, which occurred in parts of Oyo State, generated national concern and prompted intervention from the Federal Government.
Following the incident, President Tinubu dispatched a delegation to the affected areas and assured families that security agencies were working to secure the victims’ release.
Commenting on the development, Fayose maintained that state governments carry significant responsibility for handling security issues within their jurisdictions.
He argued that the response from Governor Seyi Makinde did not reflect the urgency expected in such a situation, alleging that other political engagements received greater attention initially.
The former governor also suggested that the incident may have been exploited to shift public criticism toward the Federal Government rather than focusing on local responsibilities.
While presenting his views, Fayose acknowledged that his position was based on his personal assessment of the situation and not on publicly presented evidence.
The allegation has since added a political dimension to the ongoing conversation surrounding the abduction, as stakeholders continue to demand stronger security measures and better protection for schools nationwide.
