FCT Police have impounded more than 30 vehicles and warned motorists against using tinted glasses and concealed number plates as authorities intensify efforts to tackle crime in Abuja.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi said security intelligence linked several criminal activities to vehicles operating with tinted glasses and obscured registration numbers.
He explained that many suspects involved in kidnappings, robberies, and one chance attacks deliberately use such vehicles to avoid identification and frustrate investigations.
To address the challenge, the command launched a citywide operation aimed at removing non compliant vehicles from the roads and improving public safety.
Sanusi disclosed that officers have already impounded over 30 vehicles found violating the regulations, warning that offenders would be prosecuted according to existing laws.
The police boss appealed to residents to support the exercise, insisting that the objective is to protect citizens rather than inconvenience legitimate motorists.
He also encouraged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious vehicles or individuals to security agencies.
According to him, the operation represents another step toward strengthening security and reducing opportunities for criminals to operate within Abuja.
