APC chieftain Habib Dawanan has alleged that the presidency is mounting pressure on Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to appoint Murtala Garo as deputy governor.
He made the claim in a statement, accusing federal authorities of attempting to influence the decision on who becomes the state’s number two official.
Dawanan warned that the move could undermine the rule of law, especially if it results in the appointment of an individual facing legal issues.
According to him, such an appointment may grant constitutional immunity and could stall or affect ongoing court cases.
He described the situation as a double standard, particularly following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam.
The APC chieftain further cautioned that the development could weaken governance and damage the credibility of public institutions in the state.
Dawanan urged President Bola Tinubu to allow Governor Yusuf make an independent choice, stressing that democratic principles must be upheld.
