President Bola Tinubu says the ongoing detention of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo and Borno states has overshadowed Democracy Day celebrations, as his government intensifies efforts to improve national security.
In his nationwide broadcast marking Nigeria’s 27th year of uninterrupted democratic rule, the President said the plight of the children weighs heavily on the nation despite the significance of the occasion.
He assured Nigerians that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and reunite them with their families.
Tinubu reiterated that security remains a critical pillar of democratic governance and pledged continued investment in measures aimed at protecting lives and property across the country.
The President disclosed that his administration has recruited more than 50,000 police personnel and approved thousands of additional military recruits as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security framework.
He praised security operatives for their courage and dedication in confronting threats across different parts of the country.
Tinubu also acknowledged the contributions of traditional institutions, faith based organizations and community leaders, describing them as important partners in the pursuit of peace, stability and national unity.
