David Mark has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to undermine opposition parties, raising concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy.
The allegation follows a decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop recognising all factions of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to an ongoing legal dispute over the party’s leadership.
INEC said its action was based on a Court of Appeal ruling directing all parties to maintain the status quo until the case is resolved at the Federal High Court.
However, Mark criticised the decision, claiming it reflects external influence and weakens political competition ahead of future elections.
He argued that with significant political control already held by the ruling party, there should be no reason to suppress opposition voices.
Mark maintained that there is no valid leadership dispute within the ADC and insisted that rival claims lack legal standing.
