The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has warned that Nigeria’s military must take the fight to terrorists, stop waiting for attacks, and act decisively after deadly Maiduguri bombings to protect lives and bring peace back to affected communities.

Speaking while declaring Eid-el-Fitr, the Sultan urged security agencies to take proactive measures rather than waiting for attacks before responding.

The appeal follows coordinated explosions in Maiduguri that resulted in 23 deaths and over 100 injuries across multiple locations.

Abubakar condemned the attacks, describing them as unacceptable and stressing that such acts are not consistent with Islamic teachings.

He called for increased efforts by the military and intelligence agencies to address terrorism and insurgency across the country.

The Sultan also urged the government to demonstrate strong political will in ensuring the safety of citizens, regardless of religious or ethnic background.

He encouraged Nigerians to continue promoting unity and peaceful coexistence, noting that national security requires collective responsibility.
