A meeting between Afrobeats singer Davido and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has triggered a sharp reaction from activist Omoyele Sowore, who questioned the encounter in the aftermath of violence reported during the Osun election.

Davido and his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, reportedly visited Wike at his residence in Abuja on Thursday.

The visit came shortly after the Osun governorship election, with a short video from the encounter spreading across social media platforms.

In the footage, Davido is seen speaking casually with Wike about the result of the governorship poll, an interaction that has since attracted criticism from Sowore.

The activist questioned the singer’s decision to engage warmly with the minister, particularly against the backdrop of reports that several people lost their lives before and during the election.

Sowore, in a post on X, accused political actors of misleading Nigerians while pursuing interests that, according to him, ultimately bring them together despite their public differences.

He specifically took issue with what he described as Davido “genuflecting” before Wike, coming barely a week after the political events and controversies surrounding the Osun election.

According to Sowore, the public confrontations and political disagreements witnessed around the election do not necessarily reflect the private interests of those involved.

He argued that political considerations could be driving the actions of the individuals involved, accusing them of abandoning their public positions when their personal or political interests are at stake.

The activist went on to describe the political actors in harsh terms, referring to them as “dissemblers,” “gerrymanderers,” “carpetbaggers” and “political hustlers.”

His comments followed reports that supporters of the APC and Accord Party were killed in violence linked to the period before and during the Osun election.

The controversy over Davido’s meeting with Wike has added another layer to the post-election debate, with the encounter now drawing attention beyond the political figures directly involved.
