The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ranked President Bola Tinubu above every democratically elected Nigerian president in terms of first-term performance, citing the achievements of his administration.

National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, made the assessment while defending the Tinubu administration’s record during an interview on Channels Television on Monday.

Morka said the President’s performance should be assessed against the condition of the country when he assumed office in May 2023, arguing that Tinubu inherited an economy in what he described as a “complete mess”.

According to him, the policies introduced by the administration have changed the direction of the economy, with key indicators showing what he described as significant progress under Tinubu.

The APC spokesman maintained that the government’s records were sufficient evidence of its performance, insisting that the economic indicators “speak for themselves”. He further claimed that Nigeria had moved “out of the woods” at the macroeconomic level as a result of the administration’s reforms.

Morka was particularly emphatic when comparing Tinubu with previous democratically elected presidents, declaring that the President had outperformed all of them during their respective first terms in office.

His comparison covered the civilian administrations that have governed Nigeria since the return to democratic rule in 1999, including those of Olusegun Obasanjo, Umar Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari and Tinubu.

The APC spokesman also defended Buhari’s eight-year administration, although he described the former President as a “stopgap president”. According to Morka, Buhari’s administration was primarily focused on stabilising the country before handing over power to Tinubu.

He argued that Buhari inherited the country after what he described as “16 years of horrific maladministration” under the Peoples Democratic Party and worked to prevent Nigeria from sliding further into crisis.

Morka said Buhari eventually completed that task and handed over to Tinubu, whom he credited with taking the government’s performance to another level through his economic policies and reforms.

The APC national publicity secretary also claimed that some critics of the Tinubu administration were beginning to recognise what he described as its achievements, particularly in the area of economic reforms.

Tinubu assumed office in May 2023 after winning the presidential election on the APC platform and is currently serving his first term. Morka’s comments come amid intensifying political activity ahead of the 2027 elections and continued debate over the administration’s economic policies and performance.
