President Bola Tinubu, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and the Nigerian Bar Association have condemned the killing of residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, pledging that those responsible will face justice.
Governor Mutfwang confirmed that 28 people lost their lives in the attack, while several others were injured.
In a statement, Tinubu described the attackers as “cowards” and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further violence.
The President also cautioned against misinformation that could heighten tensions and emphasised the need for proactive intelligence gathering.
Mutfwang, in a statewide broadcast, assured residents that Plateau State would not succumb to intimidation, announcing a 48-hour curfew in Jos North to support security operations.
He disclosed that a suspect had been arrested and reiterated the government’s commitment to prosecuting all those involved.
The Nigerian Bar Association described the killings as “gruesome” and warned that continued attacks without accountability could erode public trust in government.
Meanwhile, political leaders including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso called for urgent and decisive measures to address the worsening security situation.
