President Bola Tinubu has revealed that the Nigerian Army has activated new formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun States, saying the development will strengthen the military’s ability to respond quickly to threats facing vulnerable communities.

The President made the disclosure in a statement shared on his verified X account on Sunday, as he highlighted measures being taken by his administration to improve the Armed Forces’ operational capacity and welfare.

Tinubu said the new formations were established to ensure that troops are positioned closer to communities exposed to security threats. He noted that the development would enhance the Army’s ability to respond swiftly whenever residents come under threat.

Beyond the new formations, the President said construction of military barracks and depots was being accelerated in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi States. He disclosed that the corresponding project in Osun State had already been completed.

The President said the expansion of military facilities was necessary to provide better support for personnel and their families, particularly as the government expects the Armed Forces to take on greater responsibilities in protecting Nigerians.

Tinubu also spoke about the recent increase in military pay, saying servicemen and women had shared how the adjustment was affecting their families. He expressed satisfaction that the increase was making a difference.

The President drew attention to the sacrifices made by military families, noting that the deployment of personnel also affects their relatives who remain behind while their loved ones serve the country.

“Every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too,” Tinubu said, stressing the need for the government to support not only personnel in uniform but also the families connected to them.

He said his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief included ensuring that members of the Armed Forces received the resources and support necessary to perform their duties.

Tinubu maintained that as the Armed Forces continue to protect the country, the government must ensure they are adequately supported to carry out their responsibilities.

The President also said Nigeria must stand firmly behind the families of military personnel who continue to wait for their loved ones at home while they serve in different parts of the country.
