President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday submitted the N1.7 trillion 2026 FCT budget to the Senate, emphasizing investments in healthcare, education, job creation, youth empowerment, and social welfare to boost development and improve living standards.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the submission during plenary after the lawmakers returned from a three-week recess.

The Constitution gives the National Assembly authority over the FCT, making it responsible for reviewing and approving its budget.

Last year, Tinubu similarly submitted the 2025 FCT budget, valued at N1.7 trillion, for Senate approval.

The proposed 2026 spending plan focuses on healthcare, job creation, youth programs, education, social services, and boosting agriculture.

Tinubu highlighted that the budget is aimed at driving socio-economic development and improving residents’ welfare, targeting poverty reduction in the capital.

Senate committees are now expected to examine the proposal before final deliberation and approval.
