Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has questioned former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s record during his 24 years in top public offices, challenging residents of Evo Kingdom to identify developments he attracted to the area.

Wike made the remarks on Friday at a meeting with political and traditional stakeholders from Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He pointed out that Amaechi spent eight years each as Speaker of the state House of Assembly, governor and federal minister, and asked what the former governor brought to Evo Kingdom or Rivers State during that period.

Wike said his own record included projects he attracted to Rivers State while serving as Minister of State for Education.

He also questioned the political empowerment and leadership succession left behind by Amaechi, asking how someone who spent decades in government could claim to have empowered his people without producing new leaders.

The FCT minister again stated that he would resign from office if President Bola Tinubu loses Rivers State and the FCT in the 2027 presidential election.

He said his current political involvement in Rivers State was aimed at serving the people and developing new leaders rather than seeking another political office.

Wike also called for an inclusive campaign structure in Obio-Akpor, urging politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
